Simms wasnt exactly the most popular guy on campus. I've heard that people have threatened him when he "choked" and left nasty messages on his answering machine.
On the other hand, Chance Mock enjoyed a HUGE amount of popularity on campus and the UT forums before and after the first game (a majority still believe he should start, including me). Vince Young is also riding the popularity wave among the fans.
So, to answer your question, no.
He became more and more disliked after he replaced Major and then started "choking". As true fans would do, we didnt make the dissent public and visible to the enemy.
