Only thing I can think of is to do a repair of IE. start, control panel, add or remove programs look at IE and choose uninstall (?) one of the options should be repair. (Using XP take restore point first before doing this.)..
Next thing is to ditch IE and go for another browser.. (Search Threads).
Sorry, but this sounds fairly terminal.
