I've played D&D off and on since middle school, largely with the same group of guys. We did 2E, and now 3E... in 2E we used a lot of house rules, not so many with third.
3 same players, same DM. Our DM is good, he likes to give us interesting and challenging situations... but is rather notorious for killing us off mercilessly.
Over the years we've added (and dropped) several players, now a few of the guys have girlfriends who play, which makes things more interesting.
The best campaigns have always involved our high level characters, who're nobles and high-ranking soldiers. Our DM lets us do all sorts of fun stuff with them, like recently we've been able to crack down on the criminal underground in our town.
The world our DM uses is a mesh between a generic D&D setting and Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time (we started way before the WoT RPG).
We've played plenty of other RPGs, but haven't really kept any of them up. Guess we're just too attached to the old standard.
