I would argue here that if the National Guard is not, in fact, the "well-regulated" militia specified in the Constitution, then said militia does not in fact exist, because what militia there is
is not well-regulated. It is too easy for criminals to acquire guns in contravention of law, it is too easy for people to commit gun crimes.
If we must have a militia, then it must be well-regulated, and ours is most certainly not. I think that no matter how you slice it, gun laws are insufficient as they stand, and need to be tightened. Exactly how is open to debate.
