If you really want to give it a shot, try starting with a smaller and simpler object, like a TV, chair or a table, anything really. Try to get the perspective down right and practice a bit. It's really easy.
Also, check out the pixel-art section at
www.deviantart.com. Sort the entries by favorites. There is some great work there and you can really learn from it by studying the good artists' technique.
It takes a lot of free time though.
