also, try wiping the entire drive. use the utility that came with the drive that low level formats it. (writes 0s and 1s randomly)
hell, ten minutes of low level formatting is usaully enough to wipe the file system. then, you can do whatever you like to it.
and if it is (most likely) xp, you can't just change the partition to ntfs during the install. you need to delete that partition and then format it as ntfs. it is simple if you read the text.
there are programs (one from M$) that will convert an already installed fat32 partition to ntfs. it came with win2k. i think you can dl it still. but, yuo may lose all your data.
note: if you do a low level format you will lose all partitions!!! do not do it if you have your data backed up on the same hard drive!!!
