Join the Flock.
http://flocksmart.com/
Imagine sitting on a bench in a public park on a warm, summer afternoon. Without warning, more than 100 people from all directions suddenly gather around a single spot, erect a small statue, then disperse as suddenly as they appeared.
Or think about yourself during Christmas, walking through the mall. You pass the Toys-For-Tots donation booth. Without warning, dozens of people descend on it, laying down their donations in such a way as to spell out a word or create a tableau. Then the flock moves onward, to the next destination.
Now imagine that you are one of the people in the flock, being a part of a living, physical community. Better yet, imagine yourself thinking you have a better idea and organizing one of your own.
This is the promise of FlockSmart. In the coming days, this space will be replaced with flocks organized by individuals who want to be part of, in Howard Rheingold's words, the next social revolution. FlockSmart's goal is to facilitate the formation of Smart Mobs and build a community around them.
There is no profit motive and no business model. There will be text ads, but their purpose will be to pay for the hosting and maintenance of the site. Most everything will be controlled by the community using a reputation-based system. It costs nothing to join, be part of a flock or organize one of your own.
For Christmas, I want to be part of a Mob. It would make me the happiest little Spinach around.
