I'm a sprinter, so for competition, everything has to go right or else I notice and lose those valuble tenths or hundredths of a second. If I have anything remotely resembling 'good' sex the night before competition or heavy training, I notice it. That edge just isn't there. Of course, this only really matters for big swim meets, so only once or twice a season does it actually affect me or me little lady...
from RichardRambone's comment referring to productivity : I do sleep a lot better after sex, and as a result am far more productive the next day because of it. However, I'm always a touch slower in the water. I don't know the physiology of it, but it likely has something to do with the fact that orgasm tends to dump a lot of endorphines, adrenaline and other good things into your system, and it takes a few days for your body to totally fill up the reserve tanks of those hormones. And when you need every last drop of it for a 50 second race, well, that's why the week leading up to a meet is the longest week of the season...
