I'm not sure on this one, and I would like other peoples opinion on this method. (Keep in mind that I only use this method at the club that I go to, which happens to be a goth club here in town)
It's all about eye contact, if you can catch the eyes of a woman and look, not stare, but look at her for just long enough to let her know that it wasn't just a chance, then calmly (sometimes with a nod) looking away will tell you if you have any chance at all. If you can actually maintain the eye contact for about 2 or 3 seconds and they look back, then you're probably worthy of talking to her, and approaching her later will probably be rewarded.
The goth scene is a bit more standoffish than others, so I'm not sure how this translates to other cliques.
