I'm with Daval. That's exactly what crossed my mind when I read the title.
Cheerios.... you've described mans logic with your higher soles closed toes theory. That would in fact make sense, but the whole point to this question is that there is normally no logical leap between rain and red shoes.
Women I know would/could choose red over blue in the exact same shoe if the rain was coming down !
Personally I use the boots, but I'm a guy who likes dry feet.
