I couldn't find an appropriate place for this, didn't we used to have a "tilted how-to"? It could have gone in Technology, or Found on the Net, or Humor. But here it is:
Youtube has spawned a plethora of "Hitler Rant" videos recently. The formula is the just about the same for all of them. 4 minutes of a segment from the film "
Downfall" where Hitler is ranting at his generals, while all the underlings cower in the corridor. The video creator uses a movie-editing program to insert his own subtitles, where Hitler says funny things. Some of the funniest clips have been Hitler ranting about the new iPad or about Osama being killed.
I decided to try making one of these myself, after going to play board games at our friends Audrey & Dave's house. Audrey is a board gaming queen, and usually kicks our ass:
I used Windows movie maker, although just about any video editing program, such as Sony Vegas, Apple's Final Cut or Adobe Premier would work as well or better.
Follow these guidelines:
1) Download the original Bunker scene here (it's subtitle-free):
Original Bunker Scene
2) Open Windows Movie Maker - If you have Windows 7, you can download it for free from microsoft's website. Windows XP and Vista already have it.
3) The program is very simplistic. The clip is in the right pane, with a viewer in the left.
4) Simply drag the marker line, or pause it where the speaking begins.
5) Click on "Caption" to insert a subtitle. Once you've inserted one subtitle and formatted it how you like, you can copy and paste it wherever else you want. Obviously try to match up the subtitles with the speaking.
6) When you've finished editing the clip, pick one of the preset save parameters, or make your own. The important part is to save it as a .wmv, cause the default save in the program is .wlmv
Upload it to youtube, share on facebook, post it here!
