Nice PF9, I love mine. If you don't feel comfortable doing the whole fluff and buff, just do the easy and most important things: field strip it, polish the feed ramp leading into the chamber a little, and pull the firing pin to clear any debris from the channel with a just-barely-fits drill bit held in your hand and not rotated, just gently pushed in and out...not anything that could actually screw your gun up. If there aren't good instructions for this, I can make a quick youtube video for you.
I was getting some feeding issues with JHPs before I polished the feed ramp (I was also trying to use 147g), but that went away once I did. Also, I was getting light strikes on some hard primer FMJ before I gently reamed the firing pin channel--a bunch of brass dust came out, and I shot through 300 rounds of the same ammo with no failures. It's dead nuts reliable now, and I carry it every day. They are constantly making improvements and maybe those things won't be needed to yours.
Oh, if there is a visible seam on the backstrap of the plastic grip, I'd sand it down to flush--mine out of the box had a parting line right there and it cut into the web of my hand a little if I was shooting more than a couple hundred rounds in a single sitting.
