It is too big a leap for me to accept that you justify stealing in this way.
I find the topic of the police breaking the law (giving a free pass to an informant (i.e. rat) to enforce the law a better ethical challenge.

This goes back to the old philosophical stealing debate. Well would you steal a loaf of bread for your starving family? How do you know those shoplifters aren't poor as dirt?
And how are you missing the disconnect that police break their own laws?
