I worked when I was 12-13 with a paperboy route. I had my first company when I was 14. I volunteered when I was 15. I worked 2-3 jobs when I was 16. I would ditch school so that I could work when I was a senior in high school as I was an area manager of 4-5 Fotomat booths.
I liked having the money. I made average grades, but I made those grades with little to no effort.
In hindsight, I do wish that I didn't work so much as a youth. Like amonkie, I found it useful in college and post college. I never graduated because I had too many people offering me sackfuls of money back when no one knew computers.
I don't think there is a too young if it's a choice.
