I guess it depends on needs.

If I could do the 6 on/6 off setup and earn the same income I earn now, I'd use the 6 months off to do personal projects. I'd try writing fiction full time during those months knowing that I have financial security and time, which is a perfect environment for working in the arts. Of course, much of that could include travel and reading. Research, you know.
