I have the old style, no grips and the new style with grips ove gloves... I really like them.
I use the old one for cooking over charcoal, cast iron dutch oven or skillets on coals.
one time I picked up a burning coal with it... started to melt the glove, but protected my hand, and just barely melted the glove. pretty awesome in my book!
