Okay, some pictures:
Setup is a 4x2 M4 chest rig using 2x1 Maxpedition open top shingles. 8 mag: 4 across, 2 deep. Platform is 5.11 mesh panel chest rig.
I ditched the elastic shockcord that chokes the tops of the shingles. Turns out the pouches are lined with grippy panels on the outward facing side and the PMags don't even budge when I'm doing pushups on my head. USGI mags are easier to remove and may benefit from the extra tension.
As you can see in the pictures below, I had to add my own 1.5" triglides to keep the rig tight. They design these things for big boys (either muscle or lard) and I'm definitely not one. The additional triglides keep the torso strap tails tight and maintain the snug adjustment of the rig on my scrawny chest.
Also: If you want a good hand and finger workout... just assemble this rig as fast as you can. Weaving the 16 MOLLE tails through both the chest rig and pouches kicked my ass. I like the design and quality of Maxpedition pouches, but their highly adjustable attachment method leaves a lot to be desired.
I had to ziptie the back two shingles and front two shingles together in the middle to prevent the rig from bending out in the middle.
I haven't had a chance to use this $100 setup on the range yet, but I'd imagine it'll be just as good as something far more expensive. I've been doing drills with it in the garage and it seems to be fine as long as I keep my elbows tight while drawing mags. It's lightweight and idiot proof to use.
Now I need to replace my ghetto ass 1st line belt with something that doesn't smell like Sapper Leader Course. MOLLE battle belt w/ suspenders - GO!
...
Any comments, thoughts, or suggestions on the chest rig or what I should do about my 1st line gear?
