What you need to understand about this place is that everyone has an Identity Card. You get it at birth. This card has a number on it and you have the number throughout your life. You need this card to access services. You need this card to get through security. You need this card on a daily basis.
Canadian that I am, this screams of an invasion of privacy.
Here, it is just the way things are.
My employment pass is the immigrant's version of the Identity Card. I need to show it from time to time (on average once a week for something or other). It's easier to carry it with me than it is guess when I should.
The other bits of plastic are about the same. I suppose I could lighten the load by getting rid of the Dental Card, but I am due to visit the dentist so I need it. The Visa is a back up for when vendors don't take Amex.
