I find this discussion a bit peculiar.
Television is a medium. The quality of the content is not inherent to the medium itself.
I don't watch sitcoms or most dramas. I don't watch reality television. Honestly, I wouldn't pay for cable if Magpie hadn't insisted that we have it. But since we do have it anyway, I do occasionally turn it on and while much of the time I find that there isn't much that interests me, I can also sometimes find a show that is intriguing or even teaches me something.
I don't watch a lot of television, but I don't think I'm a better person for not watching. Just one with different preferences and priorities.
