I wonder if this would've sparked anything at all had I posted it:

Beside the above, my intention and mindest from the start was centered around two musicians. Right before the round started, I flipped a coin, it came up tails, and thus I went with the female counterpart of my dual choice: Chan Marshall. (Had it been heads, you all would have been tying to guess
Damon Albarn.) What was surprising about this round was that no further intimate guesses were offered after I revealed that the artist was American; I thought there could have been more prodding questions like "was she born in a southern state?" or "Is her genre R&B?", things of that nature.
So,
Who is Chan Marshall?
"Chan" Marshall is a singer also known as Cat Power. Her real name is Charlyn Marie Marshall and she's American. Her first name is actually pronounced (Shawn). Chan is pretty eclectic and so is her music. She's a true musician and plays the guitar and piano.
Unbelievably for an unknown, Chan made Maxim's 2009 Hot 100 List at an astonishing number 19. Maxim must think of her as being a rising star on the brink. She also is beautiful with her dark brown hair and light freckles. You would never believe she's over 35 years old. Chan also has a funny
side to her as well. She once wanted to audition to be in the cast of Saturday Night Live.

While most don't know her Chan has been in the music scene since 1992. In 2006 she admitted to having a drinking problem and said that was her excuse for her erratic behavior at shows. Since she's been sober critics have given her rave reviews of her performances. In 2007 she started a band with Dirty Delta Blues who were Erik Paparazzi & Gregg Foreman. In 2009 the group will be working hard in the studio with Chan producing her own new album. Chan's songs have appeared on numerous movies including the hit movie Juno. She's more known for her cover songs probably then her own. Cat Power's cover of "Hanging on the Telephone" was used for a 2005 Cingular commercial. Her cover of Cat Stevens's "How Can I Tell You" was featured in a 2006 commercial for DeBeers. Her cover of David Bowie's "Space Oddity" was featured in a 2008 car commercial for the 2009 Lincoln MKS. That being said you could say she's had a lot of "commercial" success.

They have also added a lot of "hotties" that are new to the entertainment scene. While Chan isn't new, she's just now starting to get the recognition she deserves. Her new album that she is working on, I'm sure will be highly anticipated by the end of this year. If you haven't heard Chan, you should check out her web site and download a few of her songs CAT POWER :: THE GREATEST. While other news about Chan haven't been really up to date, I'm interested in why Maxim choose her for their list. Most people might even call the choice totally random. Whatever the reason, Chan is a quirky gal and it's always nice to see women like her being recognized. She's still beautiful and unique even if she's not a lingerie model or a major superstar. More people will want to know who she is and once they listen to her music they will then want to know more about her. Plan on seeing a lot more of Chan Marshall.

So, all in all, I sought to illustrate one (of five) of my biggest musical inspirations within the past two decades to you all. I hope you enjoyed this past round (though it was a tad longer), this exposé of the historical Chan, and this little playlist I compiled for you. Just like Chan, I am a rabid perfectionist and a subscriber to the ideals of aesthetics, no matter how foolhardy.
