Shinobu Nagumo from Patlabor 2 was an interesting character. I mean no offense to anime fans, but a lot of anime characters lack a certain depth and I find it difficult to really relate to them. Captain Nagumo managed to really hold my attention, though. On the surface she's a brilliant woman, a sort of "by the book" type, but underneath her emotions are often boiling. Her relationship with Yukihito Tsuge really helped to round her character into something complex and real.
I don't know if I'd call her attractive, a lot of that depends on the artist and really anime tends to exaggerate features, but if a real woman were like the way she's presented I'd certainly be intrigued. I find a combination of maturity and passion attractive in real women.
