The article I just read confirms that the funding is not in place for this yet. It also suggests that they are not looking to replicate Buffy but rather look at other Slayers in the Buffyverse.
In other words, either do a reboot or just tell other stories.
Regardless, it has some interesting possibilities, I just don't think the current creative team is up to it. They'd better hire a better director than Kaz Kuzui and a hell of a great writer.
