Check out
Road Bike Review and/or
Mountain Bike Review, depending on whether you want to focus on road bikes or mountain/hybrid bikes.
As for the type of riding you want to be doing, have you considered getting a
cyclocross bike? Aside from their racing-dedicated purpose, they are (in my opinion) suitable for longer duration road rides with the feel of riding a road bike but are tough enough that they can be taken out on trails. Newer models can run you several hundred $$, but you may be able to find a used one in your size on Craigslist.
