Everyone's got a school girl crush on JJ Abrams and the new "Star Trek." I've never been particularly impressed with Abrams or "Lost," but the trailers for ST look pretty cool.
I took a stroll over to IMDB to see what was coming out in the next few months, and saw some films that could get me excited:
The Girlfriend Experience--Sasha Grey in a Soderbergh film about a call girl. I'm hot and cold with Soderbergh--he smudges the line between dull and brilliant more frequently than I would like. But there's no doubt he's a talented filmmaker, and I'm curious to see whether the porn star has legitimate acting chops.
Terminator Salvation--The Terminator franchise has had it's ups and downs, but I'm relying on TS for my pubescent boy summer action movie wood, despite Transformers 2 having Megan Fox in it (the first one didn't do a thing for me, and I have an allergy to Shia LaBeouf). The trailers for TS look awesome, and the Terminator franchise has been with me since high school.
Drag Me to Hell--Good ol' Raimi, getting back to his horror roots. I'm a sucker for horror films, even the bad ones, and Raimi has proven he knows how to make good movies. Plus, I've been impressed with Alison Lohman ever since "Matchstick Men."
Dead Snow--I probably won't get to see this in a theater due to it's limited release, but how can you go wrong with a plot summary like this?:
Quote:
A wintry vacation turns horrific for a group of young people when they find themselves confronted by an unimaginable menace: Nazi zombies.

Public Enemies--Michael Mann, along with Clint Eastwood, is one of my favorite directors working today. Gangster films are a bit cliched in my opinion, save for a few real classics--Godfather, Wiseguys, Gangs of New York, among others--but this is one I'm really looking forward to.
All the Boys Love Mandy Lane--Actually, I've already seen this, as it was released in 2006. But it was kinda cool--I wasn't 100% satisfied with it, especially the ending, but it was a pretty fresh horror film.
Inglorious Basterds--Yeah, I'm a Tarantino fanboy, what of it?
Of course, my taste in movies isn't everyone's--you won't find me waiting anxiously for a romantic comedy--but that's a short list of some of the films I am looking forward to this summer. Anyone else have some "must sees" that they are waiting for?
