Actually, I read that book too, and loved it... to the point where (I might have been a bit younger than you when I read it) I wrote a letter to the "head witch" or whomever it was, asking for my Halloween broom to be able to fly around. Of course, it never happened, but my dad lifted me up on the broom and flew me around the house anyway.
Sometimes I wondered if some of the Harry Potter stories hadn't been lifted from that book...
