FX has a parent company with deep pockets and can try to use a cable outlet for original programming, all their other channels aren't the right location for it, real estate TV, NatGeo, etc.
SciFi while owned by NBC has many other cable outlets to sell their overflow of original programming, Bravo, USA, Sleuth, Oxygen.
