Most tax websites and tax professionals are saying "it doesn't affect your return" but this is very misleading. It does not affect your total return, because you got part of it in the first half of 2008! If you got back $6200 this year, and got a stimulus check in 2008, you normally would've gotten back $6200 + $600 (or $1200 if you are married).
