you know, i've heard of all the major elements in the conspiracy theory universe that's been outlined in this thread.
but to "research" it, i'd recommend robert anton wilson's "illuminati trilogy"---a fine sequence of novels that has the advantage of being great fun---plus it introduces the vital category of the fnord, which may "explain" why folk are resistant to such infotainment.
the trick is, not surprisingly, that wilson wrote a sequence of novels. you know. novels.
