If you like Son Volt - especially given the fact that they effectively peaked with the first song on their first album - you'll love Uncle Tupelo. That's not a slam on SV, just that this particular song is that amazing.

Wilco will take longer to get into since they don't really believe in radio-friendly songs, but they're pretty damn good. "She's A Jar" is a favorite.

Personally, I've been getting into The Old 97's (early stuff), The Bottlerockets and Reverend Horton Heat, which I think all qualify here. I'm going to have to give some of these others a listen.
