when people do this stuff for kids like the ones i work with,
it always gives me goosebumps and makes me a little sniffly.
and these kiddos do it all the time.

i missed the "share your inspirational stories"...

we had a little 9 year old with end-stage ALL about two years ago. i met him when all he wanted to do was go home and ride his dirt bike. but his family told me that all little E wanted to be when he grew up was a policeman. specifically, SWAT. so the local Dreams Come True got together with the Jacksonville Sherriff's Office and when E was in the hospital once, they pulled up in full riot gear, stormed the freakin' children's hospital (i love it!!) and made it to his room after scaring the beezjeesus out of half the hospital. they full-on raided his hospital room and his mother almost had a coronary even though she knew they were coming because it was SO real. E was made an honorary member of the JSO SWAT and issued an official badge (really cool). that kid was THRILLED. they visited him a lot and spoke at his funeral. E was a part of their team and they wore black bands on their arms for a week after he died. to see an entire SWAT team and half the Sherriff's Department bawling like children with their heads bowed and hats off was humbling. these were big dudes.

i work everyday with incredible kids who connect with incredible people and their stories will stick with me always.
