My understanding is that he wants to elevate the current political discourse because he believes that's what the general population wants and, as a result, a genuine campaign will prevail on the issues alone.

I doubt he wants your vote if you view him with cynicism. I know I don't want cynical people in our camp as it undermines the ideology of our movement for which he stands.
