In my experience and from what I've heard from a lot of other people. The term "satanist" is thrown around pretty loosely these days, though, and there aren't a whole lot still involved with the original church. Most of the "satanists" out there are either loosely basing their "religion" on LaVey's ramblings and taking up a reactionary stance to their upbringing.
