For me, it's gotta be aggressive in either tone or emotion. I set up an "exercise" playlist on my iPod, and loaded it with stuff from the Rollins Band, Bad Religion, Reverend Horton Heat, Black Label Society, Iron Maiden, Nashville Pussy, The BellRays, Pantera, Megadeath, Skin Yard, Clutch, and a few from Joe Walsh, Aerosmith, Scorpions, etc. Adds up to about 15 hours worth of music, so except for a few random songs that seem to pop up often, I just set it to shuffle, and let the iPod do it's own mixing. I'm not paying much attention to the actual music when I'm running or working out, it's the mood it sets that keeps me going.
