My opinion is it's easy to believe what you want to believe. Even easier to believe something if that what your told from day one.
I used to have a neighbor who was devotedly Lutheran. Nicest guy in the world, would do anything for you. He always wanted to pray before doing anything. Move a tree stump? Pray first. Work on a tractor engine? Ask Jesus for help guiding our repairs. I didn't mind, you want to take a second and ask for divine intervention fine, but can we then just hook the winch up and move the stump?
We had a conversation one day, don't even remember what about now, but I stated you wouldn't likely believe that if you were born in China. Or something to that effect. He got a really blank look on his face and said "Huh, yeah, you know you're probably right about that."
