I went back to the dentist today and he said it takes up to 4 weeks for the pain to go away. Does that sound right?

sounds a bit weird to me (though I'm not a dentist, I have had a couple of root canals done). Basically they dig out all the tooth, including the nerve ends and fill it in with (for want of a better word) stuff. In my case, I've never had pain that last more than about a day...get a second opinion perhaps?
