I have this same issue. I have a number of VHS tapes that need to be converted into a DVD. I also have a number of DVD that need to be converted to a digital format. I employ the two devices below.
The DVD burner is wonderful been using it for over 2 years now. It even works with my Tivo. The next device the Neuros OSD I just got this past week. It seems to work well, but the true test remains to be seen.
I do highly recommend the DVD burner.
