Should I get the work done?
I have owned a 1998 BMW 740i for the past 6 years. At the time I purchased the vehicle there was only one other owner who kept the car in immaculate condition - so I know between the two of us we have taken care of the car. According to KKB the car is worth $10,000.
When I moved to New York city a few years ago, I decided to store the car at my parents place upstate. After living here for a couple of years I thought it would be nice to be able to escape on the weekends so I brought the car down to the city. It is garage stored and is driven about 2,500 miles a year. When I just had the car inspected the "service engine soon" light was on so it would not pass. After checking everything over it needed to have the air mass meter replaced to pass - all told that cost me $840.
Alright now to the problem. It also needs to have some front end work done. The front driver's side tire wobbles when you get the car up to 80, not really noticiable at lower speeds unless you go over a large bump in the road. The garage said it's going to be between $2,000 - $2,500 to fix. Is it worth it for me to drop that kind of money into this car? Should I just continue to drive it (with my fingers crossed)?
What's everyone think?
