The point is to win. Anything you can do within the rules, is fair-game, if you don't play to win, why are you playing?
In the old school NBA, there used to be no shot clocks. Teams would just dribble the ball for long minutes on end to nurse a lead, scores would be in the twenties. Sure, this made for boring games, but it was the best strategy.
They eventually changed the rules, but strategy remains the same, you play to win the game. Period.
