It apparently allows the player to autotune to several alternate tunings. Even the open chord tunings that require one than one string adjustment. Ofcourse if someone takes the time they can develop a perfect pitch that is usually with allot of aural perception training.
I just see as a fancy time saver, or a luxary for someone using various alternate tunings on stage where correct adjustment comes with the turn of a knob.
Watching Al Dimeola, John McLaughlin, and De Lucia constantly manually adjust their strings to perfect pitch and to different alternative harmonies shows that playing without is no big deal.
Just a cool toy, one Id like to have.
