Slick twistedmosaic, that's an excellent idea.
Pre-party informal dates for myself have consisted of everything from simply coffee, to a dinner at an informal restaurant, to hiking or snowboarding/skiing the day before. A few rounds of pool before going to a party is always fun. Sex before the party, and then again at the party, and then again after the party was always fun (damn, almost makes me miss the ex).
