Mac Rumors: iPod Touch Calendar to Get Add/Edit Functionality?. According to this, Steve Jobs says "The inability to edit and add calendar events is a bug that will be fixed in a future software update". I don't know if the email is legit or not - you can read through the comments if you care to find out.

It's not the same cost. The iPhone has a monthly fee. The iPod Touch does not.
