Healthy tasty burgers
As part of my diet that's reduced my saturated fat intake significantly and helped my drop 65 pounds last year I have been coming up with healthier yet still tasty dishes. Here's my most recent concoction.
1lb top sirloin trimmed and ground (my grocery carries this as 95% lean groud beef)
1TBsp sweet young basalmic vinegar
1TBsp Worcestershire sauce
black pepper, onion powder, garlic salt to taste
combine and set aside to rest
Take four Kaiser rolls and cover their sliced faces with olive oil spreading with a basting brush.
Prepare a large cast iron skillet with 2TBsp olive oil and 1tbsp butter/margerine ( the olive oil is higher in HDL and has a higher smoke point). Heat to medium high heat.
Place 1/4 cup Basalmic vinegar and 1TBsp Splenda for Baking in nonstick pan. Bring to boil then turn back to simmer. Watch that this doesn't boil too vigorously and stir occasionally to keep hotspots from burning.
Place rolls in toaster oven.
Take a decent sized handful of beef (about 1/8 lb) and make a thick patty make a depression in the center. Take ~1tbsp of reduced fat feta and place it into the depression. Make another 1/8th lb patty and seal together with first. Repeat until meat is used. Place patties in heated cast iron skillet and cover with another pan or lid. Heat for 4-5 minutes and flip cooking for an additional 4-5 minutes.
Place patties on toasted buns and drizzle with the Basalmic reduction. Enjoy!
Total prep and cook time:~30 minutes.
