if they leave it as a sex toy, fine. once they start treating it like a person, it turns into an -ism. its messed up.
Kinda reminds me of children that talk to their stuffed teddy bears. Its like they are reverting for that same sort of comfort.
edit: I'm not surprised at all that the guy in the beginning calls it chii-chan and is probably an otaku.
