Sucks that the company had to be paid off to get them to drop everything.
On another note, this is why I like the idea of the Fair Tax. As it has already been pointed out, if you mess up on your taxes, your life can get totally destroyed. If the state or federal tax collection agencies mess up, you're lucky to even get the correct amount of money, let alone an apology. Going to a sales tax (state and federal) only system would eliminate so much of the hassle that people have to go through today.
