When has division by 0 ever equaled infinity? The only time it is defined as infinity is in the case of a formal calculation, where we ignore the fact that the answer is not well-defined. And even this is only in the case that we're talking about the limit of the divisor as it
approaches 0 AND the numerator is 1. In all other cases it is undefined (1 or more possible values). IEEE assumes values in computing standards, but from a mathematical point of view division by zero can never be defined as only the value infinity.
