I would just like to point out that this statement is the result of misinformation. There was one IUD in the 1970s, the Dalkon Shield, that led to some fatalities. That IUD has been off the market since then, and the new IUDs--the Copper T and Mirena--are both reliable forms of birth control the world over, with little complications. IUDs have been successfully used in Europe as the main form of birth control since their inception, and many women report (especially on this board) that their IUD has been a godsend.
