Possible LCD monitor heat problem?
I have a Sceptre X22WG widescreen LCD monitor and have been having a bit of a problem with it lately. If the montior has been on for awhile it will just go blank. The time it takes to happen depends on what I'm doing. If I'm just working or surfing I can have it on for an hour or two before it goes blank but if I'm playing a game it will happen within 10 - 20 minutes.
It doesn't shut off as the power light is still on and it is still recieving a signal but the the display is all black. If I turn off the monitor and turn it back on the display comes back but only for a few minutes before going black again. At first I thoughtit was a cable or driver issue so I attached a new DVI cable and updated the vid card and monitor drivers and the problem went away for a short time but 2 days later it stared happening again.
Upon further investigation I noticed that the vent slits along the top of the monitor are very warm to the touch when it goes blank. I rigged a small fan to blow into the slits yesterday and have not had a 'outage' since leading me to now believe the problem is heat releated.
I've done some searching but am unable to find any information on heat issuses for LCD monitors so I guess it's not a common problem to have. I've only had this monitor for a few months so it should still be under warrenty so I guess I could RMA it for a replacement if it's defective but would really prefer not to have to go through the hassle especially if I'm wrong. Has anyone else ever had a heat problem with thier LCD monitor? If it is a heat issue am I ok with just having the fan blowing on it or should I just send it back if possible? If it's not a heat issue then what else could it be?
