Another story for the ages
A friend of mine recently sat in on an anthropology lecture at Roanoke college.
This is one of the stories the professor told.
Basically in Eskimo culture, when the men grow too old to work it is customary for them to be sent out on the ice to die. They're not given any food or weapons because they are too vital to the rest of the group. So the story goes that there was this man who, once he became too old to work his family set out to send him out on the ice. Well, the night before he was to be sent away, the old man went outside into the blizzard that had come that night. He dropped his pants and shit into his own hands. Once the shit froze, he went to carving it into a sharp blade. Once that was done, he took the shit blade, went to one of the dogs at the camp, killed it, and cut it open. He removed the rib cage from the dog and fashioned ski's onto his shoes. He then took the entrails from the dead dog and tied them to the other dogs around the camp, mushed the pack, and rode off into the night.
hard to believe, yes, do I hope that its true, absolutely.
