I guess we also have some need to conform to the norm. Why else would we still wear something as useless as a tie.

flstf, while those exact words may have never been uttered, I'm positive that the sentiment was there. I remember reading about an archieological study of one of the first known studies and the theory that it was razed by attackers who were jealous of the goods produced by the city dwellers. After all, one of the 10 Commandments is about this very issue, so I doubt that our ancestors were any smarter than we were.
