The Illusionist: 5/10 Could have been a lot better if they hadn't tried so hard to make it a love story. Once the focus shifted to the rivalry between the prince (who was *not* Jude Law by the way) and Ed Norton's character, it started to get decent. Before that, I was just waiting for the movie to end.
The Prestige: 9/10 Great movie. Superb cast and direction, and while it's not a "true" adaptation of the book, it seems to me that the choices made for the film were appropriate.
Underworld: Evolution: 2/10 And only because Kate Beckinsale is hot.
The Island: 4/10 Setting aside the fact it's essentially a loose re-imagining of Logan's Run, the movie just wasn't that great.
Equilibrium: 7/10 Not exactly the best movie, but it's a lot of fun to watch.
Little Miss Sunshine: 8/10 Funny, cute, generally good.
Now for a little David Cronenberg...
Scanners: 8/10 There's some shady computer stuff, but 1) the movie came out in 1981 and 2) it's Cronenberg, so when it comes down to it anything's possible. Nothing like exploding heads, bulging and popping veins, and self-immolation for the purpose of taking over another person's body!
eXistenZ: 7/10 Not quite as good as Scanners, but it makes up for it with its twisting of reality and transparent sexual symbolism. Came out the same year as The Matrix - the year of "what is reality?" films - but eXistenZ is unmistakably Cronenberg.
A History of Violence: 8/10 More mainstream than most of his other films, this one is still very good. An entertaining and captivating exploration of the darker capabilities in all of us.
